Robbie Williams concert a showcase for 4k future of event distribution

The Sony SXRD 4K projector was used in Berlin to show a live concert by Robbie Williams launching his new album, Intensive Care. The concert was transmitted live round Europe in HD and shown in Berlin on the SXRD 4K projector.

Shooting Partners were commissioned by The In Good Company and ie music to provide a team to technically produce the screenings of Robbie Williams’ Berlin concert to all the European venues. Phil White acted as technical producer working with a core team from Shooting Partners Project Management.

“We had the Sony 4K projector in the Berlin UCI cinema. It was to show the live show and also to play back part of the dress rehearsal to show the production team how to frame and cut the show. It looked wonderful,” White says.

Shooting Partners oversaw every technical aspect including the high definition transmission, the audio distribution, satellite downlinking, specifying and delivering the HD video projection, signal decoding, audio presentation and distribution at all 27 screens. It also interfaced the show for distribution to mobile phones.

“This certainly shows the future for event distribution. It was unique to use so many routes to the viewer,” White says. “One of the special elements of this show was the number of channels of distribution – not only did the audience in Berlin get to see the show but tens of thousands of fans across Europe were fed live high definition pictures to large screens with surround sound.

“In addition, ProSieben took an SD selection for broadcast across Germany. A further audio and video mix was routed for mobile streaming to T-Mobile customers, with some songs being packaged for music downloads.”
